- Both must apply together in person
- Must each bring with you when applying to your license
- Proof of age Gov't ID: birth certificates or passports
- Photo ID: drivers license (or age of majority card)
- If under 18, bring written parental consent
- If under 16, you cannot marry unless you are pregnant or a mother already
- Relevant immigrant status card, treaty status card, Canadian citizenship card etc.
- The Licence will expire 90 days (3-months) after issued
- If previously married, divorced or widowed outside of Canada, (but not outside the province) a PEI lawyer needs to provide a certified letter that you are eligible to marry in PEI.
- The Licence needs the following information
- Both parties must provide their parents' full names and birth places
- Each partners SIN numbers,
- No photocopies of documents is accepted
- Originals or certified copies only
- This license gets signed by the following at your wedding
- Yourselves (the 2 people getting married)
- Your officiant or religious ceremony leader (Minister, Priest, Imam, ,Rabbi etc.)
- Your 2-witnesses and is then sent to the government by your Minister/ Priest/ Rabbi or officiant (within 48 hours) to confirm the wedding took place

- judgement of dissolution from original court

- If the original documents are in a language other than English, (English or French in Quebec) a certified translation is needed
- PEI has the following specifications
- If divorced outside of Canada (and the documents are in a different language) you need to include a certified letter from a practicing lawyer in the province you apply, stating your are eligible to get married
